Wandering Earl Tours are unlike any others.
Small Groups
With a maximum of 12 people per tour, we’re able to offer unique activities and experiences that are not available to larger tour groups. It allows us to visit off-the-beaten-path regions and provide you with genuine opportunities for education, wonder and interaction. Such a small group size also keeps the experience laid-back, while still letting you enjoy the company of your fellow travelers as well.
Another major reason we keep our trips small: to minimize our footprint, tread lightly and achieve our goal of responsible travel.
Two weeks before your tour, we’ll connect you with the other travelers on your trip and your Expert Tour Leader on WhatsApp. You can then communicate together, ask questions and get to know each other in advance. With only 12 people, you’ll create strong connections that will hopefully last well beyond the tour!
Unique
No two Wandering Earl Tours are ever the same.
We craft every single itinerary step by step, even if it’s a trip we’ve run before. We do this by repeatedly traveling to our destinations, connecting with our local contacts on the ground and seeing what we can create. We like to keep things fresh as we constantly search for new ways to increase the excitement, benefits and value of our trips.
Think of our tours as a bunch of friends exploring the world together. That’s the style we aim for! You won’t be herded around, you won’t travel in big buses and we don’t have any contracts with large tourist hotels that shuttle big groups in and out one after the other.
We choose locally-owned places to stay and eat in order to contribute to local economies and ensure a more rewarding and authentic experience. By skipping cookie-cutter tourist experiences that are often overcrowded, we visit and interact with fascinating local people and communities that don’t typically benefit from tourism.
As a result of the above, you are guaranteed a unique travel experience every time you travel with us.
Local
One of the main reasons our trips are so different is because the word ‘local’ is at the heart of everything we do.
We only run trips in countries where we have a large network of excellent local contacts. Beyond that, these local contacts are our friends and are people we’ve met during our own travels.
This is the reason why our tours are full of visits to the villages, towns and homes of those we know, giving you a unique opportunity to meet real people away from the cities, neighborhoods and shops associated with mass tourism. You won’t be a tourist, you’ll always be a guest.
When you travel with Wandering Earl Tours, you will interact with our friends throughout your trip, meeting their families and their friends as well. These are the type of cultural connections that turn an ordinary trip into an extraordinary one!
Personal
It’s true. You’ll always be treated like a friend and never like a ‘spot on a tour’.
You’ll only receive personal messages from our very real and wonderful team and we genuinely want to get to know you before the trip. We’ll ensure that you feel comfortable enough to ask us absolutely anything that comes to mind, and we will be ready to assist by email or phone.
It is our belief that a rewarding travel experience starts well before you arrive in your destination. And it lasts beyond the last day of the tour as well. That’s how we approach our trips.
Once you sign up for a Wandering Earl Tour, you’ll hear from us quickly and we stay in touch often, sending you all kinds of useful information before the trip. We’re here to take care of any requests or needs and to ensure you’re fully prepared and excited for your adventure!
Comfortable
You will always be comfortable on a Wandering Earl Tour.
Whether it’s exploring a city, traveling between destinations or heading to remote regions, our high quality, well-appointed vans allow you to relax in comfort at all times.
On most tours, we use two vans instead of one. This gives our guests even more space, helps us reach even more off-the-beaten-path locations that larger vehicles can’t reach and it gives each tour a greater degree of flexibility. Maybe some guests want to visit a certain place but other guests are interested in visiting somewhere else. With two vans, this is possible!
With accommodation, it’s about comfort and authentic experiences. We use boutique hotels, historical properties, family-run guesthouses, luxury yurt camps, well-appointed bungalows and more, depending on the trip. All rooms have a private bathroom and when booking your tour, you can choose to have a single room to yourself or share with another traveler.
Every tour is led by one of our wonderful Expert Tour Leaders. They are experienced, knowledgeable, well-connected, super fun to be around and they all love what they do. You’ll be introduced to your Tour Leader a couple of weeks before your trip begins and she/he will be there every step of the way. You’re always in good hands!
Educational
Travel is about learning. With Wandering Earl Tours, you’ll have genuine opportunities to do exactly that. We feel the best way to learn is to meet and interact with local people, to visit their communities and see with our own eyes how they live.
With visits to local organizations, cooperatives, villages of our friends and guides, and a list of activities you won’t find on any other tour, the educational aspect of our trips is one of the most rewarding.
We also leave some of the itinerary up to chance. Perhaps we come across a wedding in the streets of an Indian village… or we’re invited for tea in the home of a Romanian teacher wondering why foreigners are passing through her small, unknown town… or we hear about a special Bedouin celebration taking place near our guesthouse in Morocco… we don’t want you to miss out on these amazing learning opportunities and your Tour Leader will make it happen!
