With a maximum of 12 people per tour, we’re able to offer unique activities and experiences that are not available to larger tour groups. It allows us to visit off-the-beaten-path regions and provide you with genuine opportunities for education, wonder and interaction.
Small groups also allow us to minimize our footprint, tread lightly and maintain our focus on responsible travel.
With a small group, it’s easy to connect with your fellow travelers as well. We set up a private Whatsapp group before every trip so that you can interact with your group and tour leader before you even arrive!

Think of our tours as a bunch of friends exploring the world together. That’s the style we aim for! You won’t be herded around, you won’t travel in big buses and we don’t have any contracts with large tourist hotels that shuttle big groups in and out one after the other.
We choose locally-owned places to stay and eat in order to contribute to local economies and ensure a more rewarding and authentic experience.
By skipping cookie-cutter tourist experiences that are often overcrowded, we visit and interact with fascinating local people and communities that don’t typically benefit from tourism.

We only run trips in countries where we have a large network of excellent local contacts and friends.
This is the reason why our tours are full of visits to the villages, towns and homes of those we know, giving you an opportunity to meet real people away from the cities, neighborhoods and shops associated with mass tourism.

You will always be comfortable on a Wandering Earl Tour.
Whether it’s exploring a city, traveling between destinations or heading to remote regions, we always offer the most comfortable vehicles possible.
On most tours, we use vans with up to 20 seats. This gives our guests more space, helps us reach more off-the-beaten-path locations that larger vehicles can’t reach and it gives each tour a greater degree of flexibility.
With accommodation, it’s about comfort and authentic experiences. We use boutique hotels, historical properties, family-run guesthouses, amazing yurt camps, well-appointed bungalows and more, depending on the trip. All rooms have a private bathroom and when booking your tour, you can choose to have a single room to yourself or share with another traveler.
Every tour is led by one of our absolutely wonderful Expert Tour Leaders.
Each Tour Leader is experienced, knowledgeable, well-connected, super fun to be around and they all love what they do!
You’ll be introduced to your Tour Leader a couple of weeks before your trip begins and they will be there every step of the way. You’re always in good hands on our trips!
There are actually not enough stars to rate Wandering Earl Tours! I’ve taken 2 trips so far and have been more than satisfied both times. The off the beaten path destinations, the charismatic local guides, the delicious foods and the excellent accommodations are what make his journeys unique. And Derek makes everybody feel welcome and secure at all times, his trips are well worth the money and I look forward to traveling with him again!
We’ve never done a tour because we essentially don’t really consider ourselves the kind of travelers that like tours. However, knowing that the group will be small, we went, and haven’t regretted the decision one minute. I loved the sense of freedom we had on this trip to do our own thing if we chose. There was no stigma to going off alone or choosing not to share in an activity. Loved that. We also realized that we would never have done all the things we did if we were on our own, so the tour was well worth it!
I march to the beat of my own drum and I’ve yet to find a tour that truly allows you to the feel and embrace the real soul of a culture. Until now. This Morocco Tour is a fantastic ride, with opportunities to explore amazing markets, cities, and the desert. If you want a truly unique experience, I highly suggest this tour.

My tour to Morocco with the Wandering Earl Team was the best of my many years of travel. From the ease of registering for the tour to the final ride to the airport for my flight home, all details were expertly executed. Wandering Earl Tours takes you beyond the usual tourist destinations. You’ll arrive home knowing you had an authentic experience in a new country with memories worth savoring for decades.
I love the fact that the pace was relaxing and we had some time on our own, which is not like your typical tour that rushes you from one place to another. Yet, I felt that we did a lot and saw so much more than I ever expected! I liked that we did many things off the beaten track… which makes it extra special. The trip was out of this world and the private camp in the desert was amazing. All the little surprises along the way…loved and appreciate all that!
I loved the mix of days we had on our own to do whatever and organized/scheduled stuff. I really enjoyed the local guided tours of certain cities. I wasn’t sure about group travel. as I mostly travel alone. But the way you handled group dynamics, keeping things moving along (but not rushed) and making sure there was time for us to go off on our own made a big difference. I also genuinely liked the people on the tour and enjoyed getting to know them better.
It was such an amazing and positive experience! First time on a group tour and I am glad I did. I was very impressed with how smooth the trip was and if I had planned this trip on my own, I don’t think i would have seen those places we went to…fascinating places I had never heard about before. I also loved meeting new people and connecting with everyone!

The trip was terrific! I really loved every minute of it. Our tour leader’s flexibility and desire to make this trip wonderful for each individual was another positive. He was exceptional in meeting everyone’s needs and working out issues among the travelers which I found remarkable. He’s definitely found his calling! Other than that, the choice of local guides was spot on. The villages we visited were each more interesting than the next. The temples and sites we visited were each fascinating and perfect! I loved the hands on nature of the trip. All in all it definitely met my expectations.
Definitely best of the best! Every detail of the trip is extremely well planned and organized, from accommodations, meals, explorations and activities with some flexibility to make every person in the group happy. Very unique locations, less touristy spots, sometimes places where there is no one around. Super cool local guides that take you off the beaten path. Great friendly atmosphere, lots of fun, tons of adventures and always some element of surprise, because everything exceeds your expectations.
Wandering through Romania was an incredible trip in every way: great sights, great people, and everything was very well-organized. This was an excellent trip in which we got to visit many beautiful places (both well-known and off the beaten path) all while in the company of a small, cohesive group of like-minded travelers. I’ve traveled to 40+ countries and this trip still stands out in my mind as one of the best I’ve been on. I would highly recommend it!
I can not say enough good things about the trip and there’s no way to express in words how grateful I am of the experience. You really paid attention to everyone’s individual interests and genuinely wanted to make everyone happy. It felt so personalized. The service was concierge level! All the little details and surprises you put into the tour just made it so special… and you were able to answer everyones questions with your knowledge of the country!! The accommodations, drivers, and other guides were awesome too! I can go on forever. I only took away great memories and I look forward to doing another tour in the future!
