Citizens of the USA are allowed to enter Romania without a visa. Starting on March 31st, 2024, Romania became part of the Schengen Zone, a European zone consisting of 29 countries. As a result, you are allowed to spend 90 days out of any 180-day period in the Schengen Zone as a whole.
Airport Arrival
Please follow the below instructions upon arrival at Bucharest’s Henri Coandă International Airport:
After exiting the plane, walk through the terminal building to the immigration inspection.
Once through immigration, follow the signs and the hallway until you reach the luggage area. Collect your luggage from the correct carousel and then pass through the customs inspection. You will then walk through a sliding door.
After you pass through the sliding door, you’ll enter the Arrivals Hall. Please locate the Information Kiosk located to your left (picture below). Your driver will be waiting for you here with a sign that has your name on it.
If you are unable to find your driver, please contact your guide, Stefan, at +40 752-111-188
Please note: When arriving into Romania, you are sometimes required to fill out a landing card or tell the immigration officer where you will be staying in Bucharest. Here are the details:
Novotel Calea Victoriei, Calea Victoriei 37B, București 030167, Romania
Guides
You will have two main guides during your experience. While in Bucharest, your guide will be Stefan. He has been a guide with us for almost 10 years and Bucharest is his home. He will also drive you to Brasov. Once in Brasov, you will meet your second guide, Alin. Alin is also very experienced and he will be with you for the rest of the trip as your driver/guide throughout Transylvania. You will also meet local guides in certain areas as well.
We will soon send another document that contains all of the contact details for your guides.
Local currency
The local currency in Romania is Romanian Lei (it’s symbol is both LEI or RON). The current exchange rate is $1 USD = 4.60 LEI.
In terms of spending money, you should estimate an average of $30 – $40 USD per day for all of your needs. This would be for meals that are not included in the tour, basic purchases (laundry service, snacks, etc) as well as any activities you choose to do on your own.
The best way to exchange money is via ATM machines which are located throughout the country.
If using an ATM is not an option, or the fees are too high, simply bring USD to exchange at money exchange offices in the cities.
*Credit cards are widely accepted throughout the country, in all cities and towns. While in more remote villages of Corund, cash would be the main method of payment.
Staying Connected
Romania has some of the fastest internet in the world, so you’ll easily be able to connect during your trip. Wifi is available in all accommodations and almost all restaurants and cafes.
If you wish to have a data connection on your phone throughout the trip, we recommend that you either activate the international plan from your network at home or buy an online E-Sim for Romania. These two options will ensure you have a good 5G connection throughout the tour.
