The SURPRISE TOUR is back for 2028!
The idea is simple: you book the trip, we plan everything else, and the destination stays completely secret until it’s almost time to go. You won’t see an itinerary, hotel list or schedule of activities. We’ll even purchase your flights for you so we can keep the mystery going right up until departure.
What you can expect is a true Wandering Earl Tours experience. We’ll travel in a small group, spend time with local people, seek out experiences that most travelers would never know how to arrange on their own and explore well beyond the usual tourist route. There will be great food, beautiful surroundings, local traditions, plenty of time outdoors and quite a few surprises along the way. And because this is a SURPRISE TOUR, even tomorrow’s plans might remain a mystery until tomorrow arrives.
As for details, all we can say is this about the trip:
Of course, we won’t leave you guessing about the things that actually matter. Before departure we’ll tell you what to pack, how to prepare, and anything else you genuinely need to know. We’ll handle the flights and logistics. The destination and the fun stuff are what we’re keeping to ourselves!
We also want this adventure to feel genuinely new. After booking, we’ll send you a questionnaire about the places you’ve already traveled. We’ll use that information to help make sure the journey takes you somewhere, and into experiences, that you probably haven’t encountered before.
And everyone else in the group will be doing exactly the same thing. You’ll be traveling with a small group of curious, adventurous people who have all decided that sometimes the best travel plan is not knowing the plan at all.
Eventually we’ll have to tell you where you’re going.

Upon arrival in our first destination, which you’ll have only just discovered, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to our hotel. After months of wondering where this adventure might take you, the surprise will finally be real! Once everyone has arrived and had some time to settle in, we’ll get together for an orientation meeting and our first group dinner. It’ll be a chance to meet your fellow travelers, get to know each other over a great meal and hear just enough about what’s coming next. The destination may finally be revealed, but the rest of the adventure is only beginning.

Sadly, every surprise adventure must eventually come to an end. You’ll be picked up at our hotel and transferred to the airport in time for your flight home, taking plenty of stories and memories with you.

Physical Level: Moderate
While this surprise tour itself is not very strenuous, please note that it can involve the following situations: somewhat long days, up to 2 hours of walking at a time, a variety of weather conditions (don't worry, not too cold!), a longish journey or two, early morning wake-ups and other similar scenarios.
Accomodation
On this tour, we'll stay in a variety of accommodations. Most will be 3* or 4* on the comfort scale. Most rooms will have private bathrooms, although we may have shared bathroom facilities on some nights. There are a maximum of 8 single rooms available. These rooms will be offered on a first come-first served basis. The remainder of the rooms will be shared. Solo travelers will be paired together, two travelers per room in two single beds.
Transport
During the trip, we'll travel around using a variety of transportation methods. Of course, they'll all be (relatively) comfortable! There won't be anything crazy such as jumping on cargo trains or hitchhiking, so there's nothing to worry about on that front, but transport may involve flights, trains, boats, hot air balloons, cars, vans or perhaps something else!
Meals
The food will be excellent! You'll get breakfast every day, 8 lunches and 7 dinners included. With these included meals, we'll eat in a variety of ways - from family style, to ordering off of menus to complete surprises! All dietary restrictions can be accommodated although it might result in a limited menu.
Sustainability
As with all of our trips, we aim to offer as sustainable an experience as we can. We seek out ways to limit plastic use, trash is recycled where possible and we avoid mass tourism activities that cause harm to the environment and/or do not benefit local communities.
Small Groups
This tour requires a minimum of 10 participants and has a maximum of 12 participants in order to ensure the best small group SURPRISE tour experience. With such a small group, this trip will be truly special as we can participate in all kinds of activities that would not be possible with more people. This is the style we love and we're sticking to it!
