Wander Across Mauritania

Passport

You will need a passport to travel to Mauritania. Your passport should be valid until at least July 2025 and it should have 2 full empty pages.

If you don’t have enough empty pages, please contact us and we will send you instructions for getting a new passport in time for the tour.

Visa

Citizens of the USA, EU countries, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand can conveniently obtain a visa upon arrival to enter Mauritania. This means you won’t need to go through the process of getting a tourist visa from the Mauritanian Embassy beforehand. Simply bring 55€ in exact change, and the immigration staff will issue your visa and stamp your passport.

Immunizations

Currently, Mauritania requires proof of a yellow fever vaccine to enter the country. You may need to show this proof upon arrival to be allowed entry. No other specific immunizations are required for entry. However, it is always worthwhile to consult with a healthcare professional about any optional vaccinations that might be beneficial for you during the tour. These may include Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Typhoid, Cholera, Malaria, and Meningitis.

Travel/Health Insurance

In order to participate in this tour, you will have to provide proof of travel/health insurance. Travel insurance provides peace of mind that, in case something happens, you don’t have to worry about paying for any health-related costs you may need or about being reimbursed for any travel expenses associated with flight delays or trip cancellations due to unforeseen reasons. It will also cover your possessions in the event that they are misplaced during the trip.

There are many options out there, so we suggest shopping around. Once you have it, please send proof of that insurance to team@wanderingearl.com for our records. You can do so by attaching a screenshot or downloading the policy confirmation.

Arrival in Nouakchott

The tour’s official arrival day is January 15th and the arrival city is Nouakchott. Please note that the arrival airport for this tour is the Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport (NKC) and your flight to Mauritania should be booked for this airport only. In case that you decide to arrive early, we can arrange an extra night of accommodation for you at the hotel.

You will soon receive a travel arrangements form asking for your arrival details so that we can arrange your airport transfer and any extra accommodations you may need.

Departure from Nouakchott

The tour’s official departure day is January 28th. Please note that the tour will finish in the city of Nouakchott. You can book your departure flight from Nouakchott for any time during that day from the Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport (NKC). If you plan to stay in the city for an extra night or two, we can book extra nights of accommodation for you at the hotel we will use for the tour.

If you plan to remain in Mauritania or head to any nearby countries after the tour, we can offer any advice about where to go and what to do. We’d be happy to assist in any way we can as we are very familiar with this region of the world!
